A self-portrait story

Self-portrait drawing. It recieved a regional silver key in the Scholastics :)

During the past few weeks I’ve been working on my artist statements for the Scholastics Art and Writing competition. After writing them and seeing the crazy amount of self-portraits I’ve taken over the past two years, I’ve realized something: my self-portraits have really become a personal diary/journal for myself. At first it was just a way to document the clothes that I made. Then I needed models for my clothes, but by the time I called up a friend to model for me, the weather that I wanted would change into something else. So I was stuck with doing self-portraits most of the time.

For a while I didn’t want to show my self-portraits, because I didn’t want anyone to think that I was in love with myself or anything (blgh, gag me). I felt like they were more of an embarrassing thing. It’s really not until this year that I’ve finally become comfortable with showing them.

The first self-portrait that I ever took...oh dear.

A more recent self-portrait

I was looking back on some of my first self-portraits the other day, and it was pretty funny to see the difference! I’ve changed so much within the past couple of years that I wonder what I’ll be like in a year, or even five years from now. Woah, I don't know if I want to think that far in advance!

I’ve been thinking a lot about colleges and what I should be, and I have so many people giving me advice about what I should go into that it’s all kind of turned into a jumbled mess. But I’ve decided that in five years from now, whatever it is that I’m doing I just hope that I’m truly happy and in love with whatever I chose to go into. Maybe it will be fashion, maybe it will be film, or maybe I’ll combine the two and do something with costume design! Who knows! All I know is that whatever I decide on it’s going to be something that I love and something that I’m crazy about.

Merry Christmas / Video / Etsy Sale

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!! I'm so excited that it's Christmas! All of my family is home and it's so nice! My sister's home so we're going to be doing a bunch of photo shoots and we're thinking of making a video too :) Photos and sewing projects are on their way! I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas this year filled with fun and family.

P.S. Here's a video I made when I went to my friend’s house a couple of weeks ago for their traditional cookie baking weekend. I've been doing this with them for years! I look forward to it every year. Their family gets together and they make thousands of cookies in only a couple of days. Last year we made 8,141 cookies in less than four days. I'm not quite sure on the cookie count for this year, but I know that it's over 6,000. It's always just so much fun spending time with friends and getting to know their family even more every year. I almost feel like part of their family. I hope you enjoy the video :)

P.S. - P.S. I'm having a sale in my Etsy shop right now on some for my photography prints. If you'd like you can check it out :)

Oldie but a Goodie :)

Oh my goodness it’s seriously been to long!! I've been really busy with work and school, but things are finally just now starting to slow down a little with Thanksgiving coming up. :) I am seriously soooooooooo excited for Christmas Break! Ahhhhhhhhh, two free weeks of pure bliss and sewing!! My sister Ruth and her husband Nate are coming home during Christmas Break which I’m SUPER excited about! I’ve really missed Ruth lately! I’m so excited to see her that I can’t even put it into words…it’s more in a form of a happy dance! Haha. We’re planning on doing lots of photo shoots! I keep threatening Nate about photo shoot idea that includes him wearing tights and a poofy shirt. Bwa-hahahahaha. Of course I’m not going to do that to him, but it’s fun to pick on him.

Last year around this time I went to visit Ruth for a week while she still lived out in Boston. It was so much fun! Pretty much the entire week we just took photo and binged out on food, which just so happens to be two of my most favorite things…well sewing’s my number one, but it would have been pretty expensive to ship my sewing machine out to Boston for only a week. Haha. After thinking about the fun memories of trip I realized that I only posted a couple of photos from the adventure! This shall be remedied! Here are some more photos that my uber talented sister took while I visited her last year. :)

I hope you all have a great week! Any fun Thanksgiving plans? :)

Dreams are Sails

Hey everyone!! So a couple of weeks ago I went to an art camp at the Fort Wayne Museum of Art. I seriously can’t thank them enough for everything that they do!! I learned so much and I had so much fun and I found my long lost twin!! :D Seriously she has to be my twin! We both have red hair, we both like the same music, we both love art, our favorite stores are thrift stores...it’s crazy the list goes on forever! We had a slumber party the other day and did the photo shoot together which I will be posting later. :)

At the art camp I was given the chance to work with video, which I had wanted to do for the longest time! And I can definitely say that I LOVE it! It was a little tricky trying to film myself though. I shot everything on a tripod and used manual focus to film all the scenes. For the shots of where I’m up in the tree I taped my camera to a ladder with masking tape. I was so afraid that the ladder was going to fall…I had to pay my little brother in candy bars to get him to hold the ladder for me. Haha. I designed, drafted and sewed the sailor jumper seen in this video to create a nostalgic feel of the 1930s.

I want to make a very special thank to my AH-mazing Grandma!!! I seriously couldn’t have done it without her!!! :)

I hope you enjoy!

I'm back!

Hi everyone I’m back!!! :D Thank you for all for staying with me. I have a ton of stuff to show you and I’m really excited to start back up! I’m now officially 16…one more year telling me that I’m not like peter pan and I actually do grow up. :( But that doesn’t mean I can’t have adventures like him! I’ll be posting more soon!

My lil brother:

Haha may I just say I love my little brother! He’s going to camp next week and he’s so excited. Every year at camp they have a theme, this year it’s the fifties. So he came up to me and asked if I could help him put an outfit together, and of course I said yes. We went down to Goodwill and picked out some stuff and I let him borrow some things. Thanks to Threadbanger for giving me the idea of putting wings on my converse, he can now run like the wind. Haha so he’s now all set for camp and he strongly believes of winning a bunch of points for his team. I’ll let you know if he wins.

Anne of Green Gables:

My sister Ruth came home from Boston to visit for a few days this week. My sister’s a photographer, so of course we had to do some photo shoots together. She also has a blog www.ruthboller.wordpress.com you should check it out! She came up with a photo shoot idea to dress up like Anne of Green Gables. I’m Anne (naturally) and she’s Diana. I’m wearing the vintage lace dress I made and she’s wearing a dress I got at Goodwill for 50c. (Goodwill outlet stores…Pro-you get insanely cheap clothes. Con- the old ladies push there.) David (my little brother) took all of the photos of us together, and Ruth took the ones of just me. It was fun…but I could have gone without the cars staring as they passed by…I’m starting to get nightmares. Oh well, I guess people will always stare…shivers.

R.I.P. Foil dress:

Hey you guys, I thought you might like to see…The Foil Dress’s DESTRUCTON…dun, dun, dun!! Haha. I got it back from the Museum of Art a couple of weeks ago and when I got home I had a little fun with it. It was so relieving to get rid of it…but I think my mom could have used a couple of tissues.

P.S. Sorry the video isn't upright, my computer wouldn't let me change it.

Snow Fort

We had a big snowstorm and school got canceled, (have I ever told you that I LOVE the snow?) My little brother and I decided to make a snow fort. We started around 10am and finished at about 5pm. Now it’s time for me to eat supper, the menu is snow and Fun Dip. Mmm best invention a human ever came up with.
