Scholastic announcements...

Soooooooooooo…Thursday was the National Scholastic announcements and well….I’M GOING TO NEW YORK CITY!! I received a National Gold Key for the Masking Tape Dress and I also received a National American Vision Award for the video that I made of my Grandma. I feel so blessed and excited right now!! I’ve never been to New York before! I’m so completely stoked that I can’t even put it to words! I want to thank all of you for being so supportive of me and always saying such kind words… it really means a lot and I just feel so blessed!

…now to figure out how in the world I’m going to ship the masking tape dress to New York! haha.

^all the National winners from the Funky Formal (can you find Waldo? haha)

^some of the kids from art camp and of course my twin!

^This is Max and Joslyn. They head up the Scholastics Program at the Fort Wayne Museum of Art, and they are also two of the nicest people that you'll ever meet!

P.S. I'll post more pictures of my dress later...I finished it literally 10 minutes before I had to leave! Haha I was cutting it a little close (pun intended!)

A Throw-away Poem

SPRING BREAK!!! Finally, I have been waiting for this week ever since my first week of classes! Don’t get me wrong school is great, but I’m just in need of break. Here’s a photo shoot that I did today. It was quite interesting trying to make sure that all the papers didn’t fly away with the wind. Haha.

^the poem was written by my friend Keldon. He had an idea of combining his poetry and my photography. I thought that it was a fun idea, so my photo shoot was inspired by his poem about writing a poem :)

This Thursday the annoucements come out of all the national winners in scholastics this year. There’s going to be a fun dress up party at the Fort Wayne Muesum of Art that day to celebrate all of the accomplishments and hard work that all of students, teachers and faculty have done. It’s going to be a lot of fun! I’m not even going to worry about the national announcements. I’m just going to dress up and have fun with Rachael (my twin) and everyone else from art camp. I’m half way done with the dress that I’m planning on wearing…there’s so much hand sewing involved though. I hope that I can finish it in time! Here’s a sneak peek :)

Well I hope that you all have a wonderful week and hopfully I'll have a couple more photo shoots to post this week since I finally have time to sew :D yay.

Vintage Cat Eyes

Hello everyone! Today I woke up feeling like doing a photo shoot. I’m wearing a coat that I made previous this fall, along with a vintage dress that I found at a thrift store for $1.50! I got these stellar glasses from eBay! They’re not my prescription glasses (although my prescription glasses look similar) but they’re just so much fun! I’m thinking of wearing these glasses to prom, what do you think? :)

^ this one was a test shot to check my focus, but I actually kind of like it. haha.

The difference between my mom and my dad when they see that I’m doing a photo shot.

Mom: “Awwwe you look so pretty!”

Dad: “Have fun lying in the poison ivy.” Hahaha I love my parents!

Hide'n Go Seek

Here’s a little video I made with Ruth and Nate while they were home for Christmas. We thought that it’d be fun to make a short video and we even got my little brother David in on it! Nate had his camera going (the 5d mark ii. Sigh, I still would like to marry his camera if it were only legal to do so… although Norman, my d7000 is still my baby! Haha and yes I name all my favorite devices) and I had mine running as well, so we got a bunch of fun footage to put together! I just finished editing it today so it’s ready to watch :) I hope you enjoy the video!

P.S. If you click on the video and watch it on Youtube you can see the whole frame that way...for some reason everytime I post a video on here it always cuts out part of the frame :/

My Twin

Hello everyone! I’m posting something new and it’s only been a couple of days. Whoa! I think this must be a new record! Haha yay. The following are old pictures that I took way back from this past summer.

^ Haha this one reminds me of those Troll Dolls from the ninties with the crazy hair that stands up. hahaha

I don’t know if you remember when I talked a couple of post ago about my twin Rachael who’s a super talented artist? We’re not related or anything, but we have so much in common it’s freaky! She has red hair, I have red hair, she likes art, I like art, she wears thick framed glasses, I wear thick framed glasses, she has a pair of floral doc-martens that she painted herself, I have a pair of floral doc-martens that I painted myself. The list goes on and on!

We met this past summer at an art camp held by the Fort Wayne Museum of Art. We hit it off right away! About a week after the camp she came over to my house and we did a photo shoot together. It was a lot of fun! Here are some of the pictures from it.

Also, like I said before she’s a super talented artist! I need to brag on her a bit :) She won 3 Gold Keys and a Silver Key in Scholastics this year along with receiving a Gold Key Portfolio!! How awesome is that?!!! :D Here are some of her amazing paintings!

A self-portrait story

Self-portrait drawing. It recieved a regional silver key in the Scholastics :)

During the past few weeks I’ve been working on my artist statements for the Scholastics Art and Writing competition. After writing them and seeing the crazy amount of self-portraits I’ve taken over the past two years, I’ve realized something: my self-portraits have really become a personal diary/journal for myself. At first it was just a way to document the clothes that I made. Then I needed models for my clothes, but by the time I called up a friend to model for me, the weather that I wanted would change into something else. So I was stuck with doing self-portraits most of the time.

For a while I didn’t want to show my self-portraits, because I didn’t want anyone to think that I was in love with myself or anything (blgh, gag me). I felt like they were more of an embarrassing thing. It’s really not until this year that I’ve finally become comfortable with showing them.

The first self-portrait that I ever took...oh dear.

A more recent self-portrait

I was looking back on some of my first self-portraits the other day, and it was pretty funny to see the difference! I’ve changed so much within the past couple of years that I wonder what I’ll be like in a year, or even five years from now. Woah, I don't know if I want to think that far in advance!

I’ve been thinking a lot about colleges and what I should be, and I have so many people giving me advice about what I should go into that it’s all kind of turned into a jumbled mess. But I’ve decided that in five years from now, whatever it is that I’m doing I just hope that I’m truly happy and in love with whatever I chose to go into. Maybe it will be fashion, maybe it will be film, or maybe I’ll combine the two and do something with costume design! Who knows! All I know is that whatever I decide on it’s going to be something that I love and something that I’m crazy about.
