This past week, my mom decided to take a last minute trip up to northern Michigan just to get away from everything for a couple of days. We went to a place called Crystal Lake and it’s always been one of my favorite places to go to ever since I was little. Every evening we went to see the sunset on the shore of Lake Michigan. The wind off the lake would softly blow on my face while the sun slowly went down into the earth; casting different colors that signaled the day's end. I’ve watched the sunset every night since by brother's passing and it always reassures me that if a sunset on earth is this beautiful then heaven must be a million times more lovely…and that’s where my brother is.
Today is exactly one month since he went to live forever in happiness with Jesus Christ…it’s been the hardest month of my life, and all I know is that the many prayers that people have been praying have been holding me up right now during this time. Thank you all for your words of encouragement and prayers…it truly means a lot to me.
You are so strong and just beautiful inside and out! My prayers are with you during this hard time in your life.

ReplyDeleteI am so sorry for your lost, sending love to you and your family Esther. It's a lovely thing to do to watch the sunset and think of your brother. X
ReplyDeleteYou're being so brave. I'm sure "the hardest month of your life" is an understatement. I wish you lots of healing.
ReplyDeleteI feel the same way about sunsets :) I believe in evolution, but I don't believe it was all just by chance. I believe there is purpose and plans. There are things in this world that are too beautiful to be just some sort of accident. God gave us those things to remind us that he is always there and that there is so much more to come. Your brother will always be looking after you and waiting for you to come home :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry for your loss.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand the images are beautiful, sometimes sunset does that to us, we feel a bit melancholic but the good news is that tomorrow the sun will rise and we will be able to see things in a different light <3

Esther, have you heard of this musical piece inspired by Crystal Lake? It's by Sufjan Stevens, and it's very soothing -

Alice, thank you for your kind words. And thank you also for the link to the song. I knew of Sufjan Stevens, but I never knew he made a song inspired by Crystal Lake. It was really beautiful, thank you for sharing :)

ReplyDeleteEsther, My heart breaks for your family. But, it also warms my heart to know that you are fellow believers and that your brother is home in the presence of the creator of the universe! What a hope for us all! I have loved your blog for a long while now and I had always thought that you were a follower of Jesus just by things you would say or just in your sweet and loving nature. and it is encouraging to know that there are other believers in the blog world. My prayers go to you and your family.
